The Japanese Highball treats whisky and soda as a craft ritual: well-chilled glass, hard clear ice, measured whisky, and cold soda poured to preserve carbonation. It is lighter than a rocks pour and cleaner than a casual Scotch-and-soda. Technique and temperature matter as much as the whisky.

Bartender's Note

Chill the glass and soda. Pour soda gently down the side or along a barspoon to keep bubbles fine. A 1:3 or 1:4 whisky-to-soda ratio is common.
