A spirit-forward flip of brandy, sugar, and whole egg, finished with nutmeg.
The Brandy Flip is the clean template for the flip family: brandy, sugar, and a whole egg shaken to a thick foam and served up with nutmeg. Without port or cream, brandy character stays forward while egg gives body. It is the teaching drink for flip technique.

“Flips are among the oldest American mixed drinks; 19th-century bars served spirit, sugar, and egg long before cream cocktails dominated dessert menus.”
Cognac elevates the drink. Dry-shake, then ice-shake. A splash of cream is optional but not traditional.
