Pumpkin Old Fashioned
A whiskey Old Fashioned sweetened with pumpkin spice syrup instead of plain sugar.
The Pumpkin Old Fashioned keeps whiskey, bitters, and a large cube, then swaps the usual sugar for a small measure of pumpkin spice syrup. Bourbon still leads; spice and squash sit underneath the way maple does in a maple Old Fashioned. Served on a rock with an orange peel, it is a fall whiskey drink that does not collapse into dessert.

Ingredients
- • 2 oz bourbon
- • 0.25 oz pumpkin spice syrup
- • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- • 1 dash orange bitters
Did you know?
“Craft bars folded pumpkin into the Old Fashioned once pumpkin spice syrup became a standard autumn well bottle, the same way maple and cider already had.”
Bartender's Note
Start at a quarter-ounce of pumpkin spice syrup. If the syrup is thick or very sweet, cut it with a barspoon of water. Rye reads drier if bourbon plus spice feels heavy.
